It had taken me a long time before I taught myself how to do car models. However, it was always very rewarding when I managed to make a new car, despite it not being exactly as I had planned it. At first I was making my cars from cardboard paper. I didn't like this technique very mych, because it took very long time to make a car and then when you wanted to make more cars of the same type, it was a lot of repeated work.

That is why I started to be interested in and look out for other techniques. I found vacuum moulding, which was exactly what I was looking for. Of course once again it took some time before I got the hang of this technique. I also wanted my cars to look better so I looked for more improvements, then I started to make my own decals, chassis, etc.

So how I make my cars today?

Drawings

First of all I have to find as many photos of the car I am going to make as I can. Then I draw a plan, sometimes it can be more than one, until I have the plan which is much alike as the original car.

Cardboard paper form

According to the plan I make a rought form from cardboard paper which I harden with varnish.

First plastic clear body

From harden paper form I press out the first body form into which I pour plaster, leave it dry.

Mould

When it's dry by grinding it I get the desired form. I put a paint on the mould, let it dry and then rub it until it's completely smooth. Now, mould is finished.

Plastic clear body

The mould I can use to press out as many bodies as I want to.

Completed clear body

I cut, glue, grind the clear body until a car has desired shape. This is a very subtle work.

Painting the body

After that I paint the body. Eventually the body is coming closer to look like the original car.

Applying decals on the body

The couloured body is much more fun, but the best bit is sticking on the decals.

Chassis for the body

Finally I start to work on the chassis and that is another story. The finished chassis I test on my own track and when it's all working I fix it on the body.

This is how I make my cars. Before I finish one, I am already thinking about which one I will make next and it's like this over and over. Sometimes at home I organise races with my cars, but I enjoy more looking at them than anything else.
